Since Judge O’Donnell was appointed and elected to the District Court in 2012, Family Court in 2022 and County Court in 2023, he has served with distinction and earned a reputation as a fair and competent jurist. 

Judge O'Donnell has presided over numerous hearings and trials, as the Presiding Judge of the dedicated DWI/DWAI - Part 7 and in the Legal Aid & IAS Criminal Litigation Courts, 

and presided over Family Law related matters. He has also served as 

President of the Nassau County District Court Judges Association 

and as a member of the NYS Unified Court System Social Media Task Force.


Prior to his appointment, Judge O’Donnell’s experience in both the public and private sector included a career as a trial attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney, founding partner in a general practice law firm, Special Assistant United States Attorney, and as Counsel to the 

Locust Valley Fire District & Nassau County DA Investigator's PBA. 


Active in his community, Judge O’Donnell has received numerous awards and recognition for his civic involvement, including as past president of the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors, Youth Sports Coach and Community Volunteer.  Respected by the legal community he has been designated “Well Qualified” by the Nassau County Bar Association and endorsed by 

Law Enforcement and various Employee Labor Unions & Associations.
